"Is that how this makes you feel? Like you're signing your life away?" It's bad when she even knows she hasn't smiled this much in a long time. She squeezes a little tighter, to confirm his existence in front of her and to make sure he wasn't going anywhere.
In the moment she's actually incredibly frightened. After Trish, she had pretty much written off the possibility of opening herself up to someone again. Tapping her foot on the ground she turns her attention to their hands, her smile slowly fading. "I'm scared, Luke."
Luke strokes his thumb back and forth across her skin, a steady reminder that no, he doesn't intend to take off. He's not exactly hard to find even if he did, but he realizes Jessica wouldn't follow him. She's expecting him to meet her halfway and at this point, it's more than fair.
"It feels like coming home," he admits, finally unburdening himself by voicing what he's been feeling since he saw her. Unfortunately, the sweet moment is broken up by the arrival of their breakfast. This waitress is a saint tbh.
More than anything, she's scared to lose again or, surprise, surprise, that she'll somehow ruin this like she manages to do with everything else remotely good in her life. All of this, with him? It's all still pretty unbelievable to her right now, but that's not completely out of the ordinary with her. She questions and uses caution towards anything that doesn't make her miserable. She's happy, but she finds it hard to openly express that or give into the feeling, out of fear it'll just be ripped away the moment she does.
Jessica gives him this broken expression after he says that, not even understanding herself just how much she needed those words in her life,.. from him, specifically. It's the perfect description for how she feels when she's around him. She's always been drawn back to him, felt safe by him. Isn't that what a home is? It's been so long...
Her train of thought is distracted by the eerily quick service and she shoots the waitress an unintentional inconvenient glance before retracting her hand and staring at her plates. Despite her lack of an appetite, she picks up her fork and digs into the eggs first.
"Maybe I'll stop by sometime," She's referring to their previous conversation, about him being at the club tonight. "See your club for myself. Officially." Because Lord know she's at least seen it from the outside.
That look she gives him has him immediately looking down and starting in on his meal, not sure if he made things better or worse. He doesn't regret saying it though, it was well overdue.
"I was thinking of making tonight ladies' night..." Luke hides a smile behind another bite.
